    Apr 14, 2014
Still waiting for my Father’s oak roll top desk to arrive and the I can finish furnishing my Den. In the mean time I have moved my collection of Lancaster pistols into their new home along with a few old Webley’s etc. The Lancaster’s are a passion of mine, the collection is up to 22 now, less than a thousand were built but even so there must be a few more I haven’t found yet, still have plenty of space...

  • Where the Bear Hides

    Mar 28, 2014
My blog has been changed to “Inside John’s Den” so I guess I need to have a “Den”. This has been a bit of a family joke as I had decided to claim the smallest room in the house as my “Den” or as others put it “Some where the grouchy old bear could go and hide”. Well they were not far from the truth. “My Den” is my space, a quiet corner where I can escape with a glass of scotch, a favorite book, my dog at my feet, stare at some of my trophies, lean back and dream of past hunts, Safaris, Zulu weapons and my ever growing collection of Lancaster pistols.

  • Double Triggers and Their Use

    Mar 03, 2014
I was brought up with double trigger side by side shotguns and was taught to fire front (right barrel) first followed by the rear trigger. Right barrels normally had less choke than the left, if the tighter choke barrel was required first it was selected by simply using the rear trigger, doubling was unheard of. This was standard practice in the UK.

  • The Webley Fosberry Revolver

    Feb 24, 2014
In the early 1900’s this interesting revolver was introduced. The idea was to combine the best features of both the semi automatic handgun and revolver. The Fosberry is loaded the same as the standard Webley break action hinge frame revolver but to be ready for instant action the hammer has to be cocked and the safety applied as there is no double action.

  • The "Tommy Gun"

    Jan 20, 2014
The original "Tommy Gun" would have been the Thompson Sub Machine Gun, model 1928A1. The majority of these were supplied to the UK from the US during WW II under the US Lend Lease agreement. This would have taken place before the US had officially entered the war. It is impossible for me to tell the whole tale of the Tommy Gun in a short blog but several good books have been written on the subject.

  • Damaged goods delivered - What should I do??

    Dec 23, 2013
Here is a tip for any one who ever receivers a package from a shipper that appears damaged. It is often completely impractical to open the package and check the contents before you sign for it! For example, and let's be honest here, who wants to open up your damaged package in the Post Office and pull out a Colt "forty five" damaged or not?

  • Vickers-Berthier LMG

    Dec 16, 2013
Vickers-Berthier LMG. Developed from the French Berthier design, which was purchased by Vickers in 1925. Vickers expected the UK WD to adopt her as the new LMG but they were beaten by the Czechoslovak ZB design that was adopted instead in 1933. The Vickers Berthier was adopted by the Indian army and eventually manufactory at their Ishapore factory.
